When my oldest and dearest friend from junior high school asked me to be her matron of honour, I was, well, honoured. Jami and her fiancé Mark had chosen a destination wedding to be held in Belize on August 26th, 2022. This would also be Dan’s first 28 day “off rotation” and would work well for both the nuptials in Belize along with the later wedding reception in North Bend, WA. We landed in Belize on August 20th, 2022 and stayed for nine days. It would be an intimate group of 15 family and friends.
Belize, a country in Central America, was warm, tropical, and really humid being the summer month of August. We enjoyed hanging out in the pool villa we were sharing with the bride and groom and their daughter in the Maya Beach area overlooking the Placencia Lagoon. It was not too far from anything and most of the group had rented golf carts to get back and forth between Maya Beach and the nearby town of Placencia. We had plenty of opportunities to get to know the other guests and catch up with our long time friends Brad and Tarina who were staying nearby at Inn The Trees. Brad would be the officiant and Tarina was Jami’s bridesmaid. We had a welcome dinner at the Green Parrot, along with a few other group meals together, a boat and snorkel day trip, and a lazy pool day at a nearby resort.
Given our roles, Tarina and I had to plan a classy bachelorette party for the bride. This included brunch at the villa with some fun bridal games followed by a relaxing afternoon at Naia Resort & Spa. The evening activities were in Placencia, starting with a wine tasting at The Little Wine Bar and fancy dinner at Muna Restaurant with the future mothers and sister in-laws. The boys had other plans for the bachelor party – a boat and snorkel trip and a boys night out in Placencia with some pretty interesting matching shirts.
The wedding day arrived and it was absolutely beautiful. The girls got their hair and makeup done through a short power outage and the photographer snapped some shots of the bride getting on her wedding dress back at the villa. Before we knew it, we were off to the Placencia Yacht Club, a gorgeous venue right over the water and only accessible by boat. Brad did a wonderful job officiating the nuptials in the scorching heat and soon enough the happy couple were saying I do. A big congratulations to the newlyweds.
You did it again you two. Wedding in Belize, a beautiful country by all accounts. Great weather, casual clothes, (except for that gorgeous pink dress Rebecca), good drinks and good friends. In the old days we would have called that Sedgewick.
You summed it up perfectly Uncle Dale. It was an amazing trip with good friends!
