While Dan was hiking and swimming in Oman, I was waiting for my first visitor to arrive. My friend, Jen, flew in from London after work on Friday, November 4th. I was also flying back from Dusseldorf as I had been up there for work. I met her at the nearby Friedrichstrasse train station at about 10:00pm. We got her things settled in the apartment, had a late night bite, and popped some German wine.
Oddly enough, Jen and I actually had already been to Berlin together back in 2011 so we didn’t necessarily need to hit up the regular sight seeing trail. Our late morning started off with a coffee and some kuchen at the High End Coffee Refinery in my neighbourhood. We then made our way over to Brandenburg Gate, strolled through Tiergarten Park, and found our way to Potsdamer Platz for the Winter Welt market. We discovered there was gluhwein and bratwurst stands so we knew this was our lunch stop. It was both of our first Christmas markets of the season. We walked through the nearby Mall of Berlin, purchasing some Lindt Advent calendars, before retiring back to the apartment just as it started to drizzle. We were thinking about heading back out for dinner but after taking a look outside at the pouring rain we opted for a girl’s night in. We popped some bubbly, made an appetizer platter and enjoyed the night chatting away.
The next morning we had a quick breakfast in the apartment and then grabbed a starbucks before I was saying goodbye to Jen on the train platform for her flight back to London. Thanks to Jen for being my first visitor!
