After I got back from my work trip to Serbia, Dan and I decided to go ahead with our most recent bucket challenge pull – To Host a Cocktail Party. For those of you who don’t know, Dan has turned into quite the bartender and makes some pretty delicious cocktails. We sent out the last minute invite and were happy to get a good response rate back from 10 friends. We prepared the drink menu, even including some non-alcoholic options or “Mocktails”, some light appetizer ideas, and started working on a cocktail quiz for our Summer Cocktail Party in May … summer does start a bit early here.
Our guests arrived just after 7:30pm on Friday, May 20th and selected a drink from our cocktail menu. We had 3 cocktails to choose from including the “Si Mamacita”, “Lost Lake” and, to finish, the “Barbary & Hearst”.
Our mocktails included a “Ginger Fizz” made with homemade ginger syrup, fresh lime juice and soda water as well as the “Tiki Temperance Time”, a blender concoction.
After a couple of cocktails in, and the conversation at a natural lull, we whipped out our surprise cocktail quiz. A series of 20 drink related questions and our guests worked in teams of two. Do you know the cocktail that is named after an insect which consists of creme de menthe, creme de cacoa and cream? Or what country gin was invented in? If so, you might have done very well on our quiz. The winners were Spence and Kirk or “Team Awesome” as they called themselves and they won a bottle of Rose that we had brought back from the Zvonko Bodgan winery in Serbia. All in all, I think our summer cocktail party was a success!
