December was a busy month for Rebecca and I. The Christmas decorations went up early and we tried to attend a few festive events in Abu Dhabi to get in the spirit. We joined friends for cheese fondue at the Swiss Christmas Village, attended my company’s annual dinner, and hosted the “Holly Jolly Christmas Celebration” at our apartment before heading to Canada for the holidays.
On Wednesday, December 23rd, we flew to San Francisco and connected through to Cowtown arriving in the afternoon. I went out to Strathmore to visit my friend Kyle and Bec went to hang out with her mom and sister. I spent Christmas Eve at my dad and JeriLynne’s place and we were delighted to see it was snowing outside. Bec came by for a while and then was off to church with Bev and Paige. On Christmas morning, we watched as Wyatt and Emery opened their presents at Scott and Jenelle’s. Kevin and Jordyn joined us and even Judy dialed in over Skype. We spent the rest of Christmas Day at the Rettenmier’s opening presents, playing games and chowing down on turkey dinner.
I popped out to Strathmore on Boxing Day to visit Kyle and his kids before heading back into the city for a prime rib and lobster thermidor dinner at Chez Doug with my brothers.
After watching Wyatt play a bit of hockey, the Rettenmier gang and I made our way up to Red Deer on Sunday to pay a visit to Bev’s brother, Garry, Aunt Jo, and Cousin Stacey. We had a nice visit with them before we made our way back to Calgary as Bec was meeting her friend Megan in Cochrane that evening. The girls spent the evening in reminiscing over some pizza and wine.
We decided that Monday’s snow storm was enough to keep us inside playing board games with Paige and Bev. It was nice to have a “snow day”. Bec also got to catch up with her friends Kim and Jen over our last couple of days in the city. Barry and Carole made it back from Phoenix just in the nick of time so we also got a good visit in with them and Grandma Margaret on our last night in Calgary. It was great to be home to visit with our family and friends over Christmas!
