We arrived into Calgary on the afternoon of December 22nd after flying up from Dallas, Texas. My sister greeted us at the airport and we got settled in for the next 11 days. Dan went to Scott’s for a bit to visit the kids and Judy picked him up from there. The next day I went out to Strathmore to have dinner at Judy and Vern’s place with family and friends. We had a nice time catching up with everyone and enjoyed the real fireplace to keep us warm.
We couldn’t believe it but the next day was already Christmas Eve. We had dinner that evening at Doug and JeriLynne’s place including beef roast, mashed potatoes, roasted carrots and brussell sprouts amongst many other things. There was about 15 of us for dinner and it was a lot of fun all gathered around the table.
Christmas morning we went over to Scott and Jenelle’s to watch the kids open their presents and then we spent the rest of the day at my mom’s. That evening we had a Christmas dinner of turkey and all the fixings. It was a great Christmas Day.
On Boxing Day, we made the drive up to Red Deer to visit my cousin Stacey, and my Aunt Jo and Uncle Garry who were visiting from Saskatchewan. We enjoyed some leftover ham buns and a rum and eggnog. We visited for a few hours and then got on the road back to Calgary. I got dropped off in Airdrie to meet up with my friend Jen who was visiting from London. We had a Canadian classic at Boston Pizza-the salted rim Caesar. It was great catching up before she headed back to London.
On December 29th, Dan, Judy, Vern, Kev, Jordyn, Scott and Wyatt went skiing at Nakiska for the day and spent the night at the Casino. I hear Dan and Wyatt really enjoyed going down the waterslides. I met up with my friends Megan and Kelly that evening for dinner on 17th avenue. Judy and Vern flew back the next day to some warmer weather.
On December 30th, I met up with Kim for lunch and then met Enza for a coffee at South Centre Mall. My friend Jami flew up that evening from Seattle and we had a great night catching up and playing Mad Gab.
For New Year’s Eve, Dan and I had made plans to have dinner with our bridal party. We went to one of our favorite restaurants in Calgary called Rouge. Not only are they one of the best restaurants in Calgary but they are one of the top 10 restaurants in all of Canada and have received numerous awards. The restaurant is a converted home – the house was built in 1891 and is an Alberta Heritage site. We enjoyed a 6 course meal with wine pairings and brought in the new year with a champagne toast. It really meant a lot to us both to ring in the new year with our closest friends. It was the perfect way to start off 2015.
We flew back to Abu Dhabi on January 2nd. We had such a great visit with our families and our friends over the holidays. We can’t wait to be home again this summer!
