Short Term Roomie

Our friend, Angela, came to stay with us at the end of May 2014. She had been living in Abu Dhabi for the past 3 years and needed a place to crash during her transition period back to the States. She was actually one of the first friends I met in Abu Dhabi. My friend Enza had met her at a seminar in Calgary and they exchanged contact details. I enjoyed getting together with Angela on the weekends over a cup of coffee at the Starbucks, going for a movie, or grabbing a bite to eat. Angela stayed with us until mid July to finish off her advanced level Arabic classes.

We had a nice going away dinner for her at our place with some friends on her last night in Abu Dhabi. Previously, she had given us a Ramadan present of an assortment of teas, including a culinary tea cookbook. Dan put it to good use and prepared a “tea themed dinner” for Angela’s last night including jasmine dumplings, oolong-brined chicken thighs, and apple Ceylon tea cake. We are going to miss Angela and wish her all the best back in America!

About rrettenmier

In September 2010, Dan and I received working visas for the United Kingdom. We sold our condo, quit our jobs and packed our bags to move to London. This blog (though a few months late) is designed to update our friends and family back home about where we are and what we are up to.

Hey Dan, that tea themed dinner puts pressure on those of us who only scorch the odd steak and serve Weiner on a toothpick Hor D’oeuvres. I’m looking forward to cooking lessons next time we see you two. Carry on.
