Here’s Looking at you Kid

On Thursday, April 11th we flew from Abu Dhabi to Casablanca to meet up with our friend Jami Scott who was going there with her friend Tarina for a 3 week vacation of Morocco and Spain. We arrived early on Friday morning, went to the hotel, and hit the streets of Casablanca. Dan and I had a light breakfast in the Place de United Nations and then walked through the streets of old Medina before heading over to the Hassan II Mosque. Afterwards we went and had a late Moroccan lunch of lamb tagine with prunes and almonds and a royal couscous accompanied with some local wine. We had a relax back at the hotel before meeting Jami and Tarina just after 9:00pm. We then popped over to the nearby Sheraton for a couple of late night bevies.

The next morning we had breakfast and the four of us set out on foot to the New Medina area and the Palace. We then decided to take 2 taxis over to La Corniche for a seafood lunch on the waterfront. Lastly we walked through the Old Medina before heading back to the hotel where the girls had to meet up with their tour group. After the meeting, we went out for a Moroccan feast with chicken tagine, pigeon puff pastry, and a mix of different salads.

The next morning we said a sad goodbye and saw the girls off on their 8 day tour of Morocco. Dan and I decided we had to have lunch at Ricks Cafe, a recreation of the cafe in the movie Casablanca. Unfortunately Sam wasn’t playing the piano. In the afternoon we experienced a traditional hammam spa treatment where they scrub you down and then give you a short massage. Not a bad way to end the day before heading on the evening flight back to Abu Dhabi.

It was so great to meet up with Jami even if it was only for a couple of nights! We hope they have a great trip in Morocco and Spain.

About rrettenmier

In September 2010, Dan and I received working visas for the United Kingdom. We sold our condo, quit our jobs and packed our bags to move to London. This blog (though a few months late) is designed to update our friends and family back home about where we are and what we are up to.
