On the night of Tuesday, October 9th, my buddy, Chris, arrived in Abu Dhabi from Oman. He has been working a rotation in Oman for the last 4 years and he had just finished a 35 day hitch. I picked Chris up and the airport and we drove to our place.
The next morning, we played 18 holes at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club. It was getting pretty hot by the end, but we managed. I hate to admit it, but Chris beat me by 1 stroke. Afterwards, we relaxed by the pool and had a snooze before heading out that evening. Rebecca, Chris, and I went out for a nice Italian meal at the Hilton. Rebecca headed home as she had to work the next day, but Chris and I did a little bar hopping around Abu Dhabi. The next day, I subjected Chris to a major errand. We went to pick up Rebecca and I’s new car. That night, Chris flew back to Calgary to enjoy the rest of his days off. It was great to see him.
On Friday morning, Rebecca and I took part in the Zayed Sports City 10K Race. Coincidentally, some of Rebecca’s coworkers were also there for the race. It was good to get out and we hope to do some more races in the future.
A few weeks earlier, we learnt that my brother, Scott, was planning to be in Muscat, Oman for business. So on the evening of Wednesday, October 17th, Rebecca and I flew to Muscat. We met Scott and his boss the next morning for breakfast at the hotel. They had been invited to go fishing that day and passed the invitation on to Rebecca and I. So we drove across Muscat to the Bander Al Rowdha Marina and boarded the boat. Our guide, a local Omani, took us out to fish for about 2.5 hours. We bagged about 16 tunas before heading back…even Rebecca reeled one in! Later, we stopped by the Shangri-La Barr al Jissah Resort to visit an ex-coworker of Rebecca’s. Sherri was there for a conference and she happened to be enjoying a free day after the conference had ended. We spent our time on the beach and had a nice lunch. That evening, we were invited to a barbeque at the home of one of Scott’s business contacts. We flew back to Abu Dhabi the next morning and Scott flew home. Overall, it was a great trip and it was so nice to see Scott.
