Yas Island and Abu Dhabi

On Saturday, December 3rd we awoke at 4am to begin our long journey to the United Arab Emirates. We picked up Bardhyl and Irvin, 2 of Dan’s work colleagues, in Fier and then made the 2 hour drive to Tirana airport. We flew to Athens, then to Doha, before landing in Dubai. From there we drove to Yas Island, which is just outside of Abu Dhabi, where we are staying. Dan’s course began the next day as Sunday is a work day (Friday and Saturday is the weekend here).

The weather here has been a gorgeous 26-28 degrees so Rebecca has been enjoying lounging poolside. Monday night we drove into Abu Dhabi, along the Corniche(a promenade along the Arabian Gulf), had a quick stop at the Marina Mall before heading to the Lebanese Flower for dinner. Last night we had another Lebanese dinner at one of the hotel restaurants that also had a belly dancer. Afterwards we went to smoke some Shisha. We tried strawberry and the others had mint. So far we are really enjoying it here and are amazed by the modernity and infrastructure considering they just celebrated their 40th National Day this past Saturday. We only have 4 nights left but will let you know what we get up to.

About rrettenmier

In September 2010, Dan and I received working visas for the United Kingdom. We sold our condo, quit our jobs and packed our bags to move to London. This blog (though a few months late) is designed to update our friends and family back home about where we are and what we are up to.
