After The Moms left I decided it would be a good time to see where my friend Jen had ended up after leaving Albania in September. She had made her way to Munich for Oktoberfest, then Vienna, and Prague. She mentioned meeting in Berlin and I flew there on Wednesday, October 19th. After meeting her at our hostel in the Mitte area, we set out on foot to see the main sights. We took the train to Alexanderplatz and had some potato soup for lunch before heading down the Unter den Linden, passing Humbolt University and bookburning square. That night we had dinner outside Brandenberg Gate where we tried currywurst and pork knuckles.
The next morning was brisk and our first stop was the Topographie of Terror Museum, where the Nazi headquarters were. After that it was a short walk to Checkpoint Charlie then we had pork schnitzel for lunch in a nearby pub. That afternoon we spent walking down East Side Gallery, the worlds largest outdoor gallery. Our last day we went to the Jewish Museum which focuses on Jewish history and art. That evening we had dinner with Brady(Dan’s step-brother), Lena, their daughter Ida and their friend David. It was nice to see some familiar faces!

About rrettenmier

In September 2010, Dan and I received working visas for the United Kingdom. We sold our condo, quit our jobs and packed our bags to move to London. This blog is designed to update our friends and family back home about where we are and what we are up to, as well as to share our adventure with others.
