As mentioned in our last post, we are currently staying in the city of Fier where Dan’s new office is located. Fier is about 1.75 hours south of the capital Tirana. Fier, or Fieri, is a city in southwest Albania in the county of the same name.  It is only 8 km from the ancient Greek city of Apollonia, which we hope to visit very soon. It is not surprising to learn that much of the city’s history is based on the oil, gas and bitumen deposits nearby. The main road from the central square leads south to Vlora, which is approximately 35 km/45 minutes away. They are currently building a new road from Fier to Vlora but it is not expected to be completed for another year. We haven’t done much exploring yet of the city but when we do we will let you know. For more information on Fier’s economy and history check out our Albania page.

About rrettenmier

In September 2010, Dan and I received working visas for the United Kingdom. We sold our condo, quit our jobs and packed our bags to move to London. This blog is designed to update our friends and family back home about where we are and what we are up to, as well as to share our adventure with others.
